How long does it take to modify my vehicle? arrow
Automobility has two timelines when approval for vehicle modifications is received:
- “Lead Time” this is the time that it takes Automobility to schedule your vehicle in for a production slot. Our usual “lead Time” is 16 weeks, but always discuss this with your Mobility Consultant for an up to date “Lead Time”.
- “Build Time” this is the time that it takes Automobility to start and complete your vehicle.
NB: This does not include freight time.
How long does Freight take to deliver my vehicle? arrow
As freight is arranged through a 3rd party, Automobility can only estimate the delivery of the vehicle from advice given by the freight company. Standard freight time is around 10 working days from point to point each way. Transit time is in addition to any quoted manufacturing times.
When can I book my vehicle in for a Production spot? arrow
Assigning your vehicle to a production spot is triggered by the following:
- Funding approval from funding body (for example: funds available in the NDIS portal) a booking number sent to Automobility
- Vehicle details provided to Automobility in way of a VIN (Vehicle Identification Number)
- Signed quote provided to Automobility.
What if I self-manage or have a plan manager? arrow
If self-managed, you are responsible for notifying Automobility that the modifications have been approved and a booking number and funding amount is required by Automobility. If you have a plan manager, you are responsible for notifying Automobility of the plan manager and their contact details.
Where are the works performed? arrow
All major vehicle modifications are conducted at our Head Office and Production Facility in Montrose, Victoria.
What if I require a docking station or hand controls as part of my vehicle build? arrow
Automobility would prefer that clients requiring hand controls and docking stations as part of their build to attend Automobility’s Head Office and Production Facility in Montrose, Victoria for these final modifications to take place. We do recognise that travel to Montrose can be difficult both physically and financially.
Travel to and from Automobility Head Office and Production Facility in Montrose, Victoria can be added to your funding request as part of the vehicle modifications. Automobility also have partnered with 3rd parties who can provide support and fitting of hand controls and docking stations (location dependent). Please speak to your Mobility Consultant about options for this service.
Do you hire vehicles? arrow
No, Automobility do not have vehicles available for hire, we do suggest contacting our partners Hertz https://www.hertz.com.au/rentacar/Car-hire-deals/Hertz-Wheelchair-Accessible-Vehicles and Europcar https://www.europcar.com.au/deals/wheelchair-accessible-cars for wheelchair access vehicles.
Can I add vehicle hire to my NDIS Plan? arrow
You will need to discuss this with your funding body for clarification.
Can Automobility paint my ramp Pink? arrow
Yes, Automobility can, we are always happy to accommodate the individual needs of our clients. However, these changes from standard may attract additional costs and may not be fully covered by your funding body. Speak to your Mobility Consultant if you wish a little “bling” in your life.

What is the weight limit of the ramp? arrow
Automobility’s standard ramp is rated at 300kg. We do offer a Heavy-Duty ramp rated at 400kg.
What is your docking station rated at? arrow
Automobility’s standard Docking station is tested at 150kg. We do offer a Heavy-Duty Docking station rated at 225kg.
When considering a docking station, will the pin fitted to my wheelchair reduce ground clearance? arrow
Yes, ground clearance will be decreased due to the fitment of a docking station pin. This clearance will differ from wheelchair to wheelchair. Docking station pin locations are selected to minimise the effect on ground clearance whilst retaining the strength and safety of the installation
Can I get a retractable pin for my wheelchair? arrow
Some wheelchair manufacturers can supply a retractable pin to your wheelchair. Please check with the relevant wheelchair manufacturer/supplier as to whether your wheelchair is suitable.
When considering a docking station and its weight capacity, is it only the wheelchair that needs to be considered? arrow
Yes, the docking station is there to restrain the wheelchair, the wheelchair occupant lap/sash seat belt is provided to restrain the wheelchair user.
Do the restraints used by Automobility comply with Australian Standards? arrow
Yes, all the wheelchair restraints meet ISO 10542 & A.S 10524. Our lap/sash belt for the wheelchair occupant also meets AS 10542.1 and is adjustable in both height and position and as required in the Standards and Australian Design Rules, is positioned for the comfort and safety of the occupant
